How To Care For Natural Wood Toys
One of the appeals of natural wood toys is their ability to last generations. So, how do you care for them so they stay looking new? It's actually quite easy!
Cleaning: Use a damp cloth and IMMEDIATELY thoroughly dry it with a clean towel. Never let it soak in water. Never put it in a dishwasher. If there is a sanitary issue, it can be hand-washed with dishsoap and water, thoroughly rinsed, and immediately dried. Again, do not let it soak in water!
If you repeatedly wash or expose a natural wood toy to water, it should periodically be recoated with food-grade beeswax/oil just like you do to your wooden kitchen cutting boards.
Dents/scratches: Hardwood does not dent or scratch easily – that is why it is used for wood floors. But, if you do have dents or scratches you’d like to remove, a little sandpaper will do the trick. Reapply a food-grade beeswax/oil to help protect the exposed surface (see above).
Reminder, this is for repairing natural wood toys. Painted surfaces require different care that is not discussed here (extreme caution needs to be used as paints can contain hazardous substances).
